ABSTRACT

This chapter informs about the present situation regarding composing in the classroom in the Czech Republic. A brief historical foray is followed by an overview on Czech music education in general and a focus on its activities. More detail is given to artistic education and the expansion of classroom composing in schools after 2000. The text explains the extracurricular role of classroom composing and its application in schools and in the educational programs of musical and educational institutions. It discusses projects conducted by teachers, composers, and institutions that strive to broaden the scope of experience in composition in the Czech Republic. It also gives a perspective on the methodology of the Different Hearing program (Slyšet jinak) when using classroom composing in curricular materials for music education in primary and secondary schools.
