ABSTRACT

The outbreak hit China's industrial economy unprecedentedly in the first quarter of 2020, and its impacts on future development depend on the duration of the global pandemic, the effectiveness of anti-epidemic measures in different countries, as well as the policies in each country to restore the economy after the outbreak. This chapter explores the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on China's industrial economy, including short-term impacts and medium- and long-term impacts based on the predicted duration of the pandemic in epidemiological studies. In the first quarter of 2020, the outbreak and control measures for the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented impacts on China's industrial economy. In addition, the cross-conduction of negative impacts via the supply chain and industry chain among sectors and regions has finally led to nationwide paralysis of the industrial supply chain network, sales system, and logistics system.
