ABSTRACT

The following chapter underscores how healthcare organizations and management, in order to continue the fight against health inequities, must adopt intersectional approaches in research, education, and practice. The inclusion of intersectional discourse in healthcare education and the inclusion of alternative approaches in service delivery, such as the prioritization of high-risk families during times of crisis, all lend themselves toward combating health inequities that have persisted for generations. The chapter builds upon decades of intersectionality research to provide a framework for healthcare management. A framework built off two core tenets that, when adopted, can help historically marginalized groups receive equitable care and help mitigate these disparities during times of crisis. Specifically, the recent case of the COVID-19 pandemic further underscores the challenges faced in healthcare and the opportunities presented through intersectional approaches.
