ABSTRACT

Black women have (re)navigated, (re)negotiated, and (re)learned how to thrive from their respective standpoint and epistemologies, no matter how crooked the academy or any other space or context within which they find themselves. We have chosen to traverse the academy in ways that counter typical narratives of success and advancement; we have (re)imagined how to embody our praxis. This introductory chapter lays the foundation for the edited text by defining epistemology, research, and praxis, situated within epistemic violence and agency. We conclude the chapter by outlining how the book is organized.
