ABSTRACT

This chapter examines controversial corporate social responsibility (CSR) in light of the climate crisis that the earth is facing. “Controversial” is defined as giving rise to controversy (“Controversy”, 2021), or to make it easier, discussions that do not lead to consensus or joint action. Regarding climate change, there has been a long time debate already on whether humans caused the temperature rise. Climate skeptics have been able to hostage the discussion, whereas a large majority of the scientists involved at IPCC have had a consensus for many years that the human species is causing climate change and that if we as humans do not act, the climate crisis will be irrevocable. This does mean a shift in CSR and CSR communication as well. Where in the past it was enough to shed a light on what organizations are doing to be part of society, this quest will be extended to what organizations are contributing to save the planet.
