ABSTRACT
This chapter offers the case study of Amores do Céu e da Terra (2014), which results from the interplay of three agencies in adapting texts published in a Chinese newspaper to the short-story format: Ling Ling is presented as the author; Stella Lee Shuk Yee as the translator; and Fernanda Dias as the storyteller who rendered the texts into Portuguese. Following a genetic translation studies approach, this chapter discusses the collaborative reframing of those short stories, examining the genetic dossier of Amores do Céu e da Terra. The study of Dias’s appropriation of Ling Ling’s stories is grounded in the opposition between the concepts of storytelling/retelling and translation and is complemented with the analysis of the role played by drawriting as a stage in the rewriter’s creative process.
