ABSTRACT

The global rise of dizis, Turkish drama series, has generated a growing news media and academic interest in the history of “Turkish content.” This chapter explores the unique experience of dizi distributors during the 2010s, charting a model that helped establish the genre, mainly through financing but also by increasing the volume of production. As firsthand witnesses to the global reception of dizis, distributors also accrued knowledge of the structural, emotive, and technological aspects of their production. In time, producers began to consult them in designing content for their new projects, particularly in the domains of casting and subgenre.
