ABSTRACT

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has brought the next wave of technologies that are influencing economies and societies on a global scale. In this context, teacher educators have a responsibility to prepare future teachers to understand and engage with the disruptive effects of these technologies and to participate in their transformation to support learning. This chapter outlines how teacher education can prepare teachers who will be 4IR-ready. It identifies the key transformational characteristics of 4IR related to the teacher education curriculum and the problem of the professional divide, and it assesses the implications for preparing future teachers for their citizenship roles in schools and communities.
