ABSTRACT

Values are a fundamental motivation for people’s activities. They are shaped by people’s needs for autonomy, social integration and meaningfulness. Value-oriented action can lead to satisfaction and self-realisation in professional and voluntary work as well as in personal life. There is great potential for social transformation in the value-oriented actions of organisations, companies, social initiatives and individuals. A social discourse of values is needed for a reorientation of politics, business and society. Education must contribute to this value orientation and enable and support action based on values by imparting competences.
