ABSTRACT

Physical wounds, also called traumas, are often treated with exposure to air. Likewise, psychological and spiritual wounds must also be exposed to “air”. They must be opened and examined before healing can begin. In this chapter, the author airs her personal trauma/wound of child loss by testifying of the veracity of her experience through four intersecting arts practices. Braiding the African diasporic processes of Call and Response, Testifyin’ and Witnessin’, as well as afronography, each strand of the braid encourages the reader to bear witness and to actively promote the healing process. This abstract also serves as a Trigger Warning for any who are not yet ready for their invited role as witness.
