ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on some of the life writing forms exploring different techniques and approaches, including those used in travel and diary writing. Diaries are used in a variety of ways, and entries are written for often personal reasons, sometimes as a record of daily events and sometimes for self-reflection. Diary entries can be surprisingly eclectic and especially useful for the writer — and possibly future readers. In Frank’s diary, links are made between entries by introducing characters who might then recur. Detailing different perspectives of the same event can contribute a rich complexity to our life writing. A fine balance is needed when using fiction techniques such as dialogue, scenes, point of view and plot.
