ABSTRACT

Carol Ann Duffy (1955—), poet, was born in Glasgow but spent her childhood in Stafford and gained a philosophy degree from Liverpool University. She won the National Poetry Competition (1983), before IIpublishing her first collection, Standing Female Nude (1985). Further collections include Meantime (1993), The World’s Wife (1999) and Rapture (2005). Duffy was Poet Laureate (2009-2019). Her poems appear on the English national curriculum and her subject matter and use of language are often lauded for achieving complexity while being highly accessible.
