ABSTRACT

Hilary Mantel (1952–) was born in Glossop, Derbyshire. She lived in Botswana and Saudi Arabia for several years before publishing her first fiction. A celebrated novelist, her books include Wolf Hall (2009), Bring up the Bodies (2012) and The Mirror and the Light (2020), her trilogy about Thomas Cromwell. Her first novel, Eight Months on Ghazzah Street, was published in 1988. Other novels include Fludd (1989), An Experiment in Love (1995) and Beyond Black (2005). Her memoir, Giving Up the Ghost (2003), includes an account of some of the processes involved in her writing.
