ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide an overview of past and current sexual pleasure research and explore the current state of pleasure education in the United States. It will also examine why it’s necessary to look at multiple aspects of pleasure, and how the use of social media and messages about pleasure impact people. Current research suggests that conversations about pleasure in educational settings are often minimal, limited in scope, and lack inclusivity as they are often based in heteronormativity. Addressing these gaps can challenge the limited framing that dominates current narratives around pleasure and lead to healthier, inclusive, and more pleasurable experiences.
