ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how staff at the University of Utah were on the edge of burnout during the spring and summer of 2020. We utilize the term burnout warning as a means to illustrate how staff members were dangerously close to burning out by having to assume new roles and responsibilities. Staff were also required to learn new technologies and feared for their job security. These fears were compounded by the concern that job loss would result in loss of health care, which was of paramount importance during a global pandemic. Ultimately these stressors and fears resulted in staff members at the University moving toward the edge of burnout.
