ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on mental health has been well documented. Quarantining and social distancing are not natural states for most people, including college students. Unfortunately, social distancing created social isolation for many participants, which resulted in mental health concerns. This chapter also explores the mental health impacts on Students of Color, whose communities were disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in Utah and across the country. Students clearly struggled in many ways, from serious mental health concerns to less severe lags in their motivation. However, we were surprised by how many students maintained an overall positive approach to the situation, and also noted how a sense of succeeding despite these significant struggles renewed their motivation to continue.
