ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the University’s decision to move all courses to an online format impacted faculty members. For many faculty members, this was a jarring transition. Some had never taught an online class before. Some were not familiar with the technology needed to teach their classes effectively. Many faculty members were conflicted about the value and efficacy of online learning. Despite these challenges, faculty maintained a sense of care for students. They expressed concern for both the physical well-being of students and students’ educational pursuits. This chapter illustrates the challenges associated with transitioning from a brick-and-mortar, four-year university that predominantly offers in-person classes into one that operated almost completely online.
