ABSTRACT

In the United States, the Latinx population is the second largest ethnic group and is expected to continue to grow. This chapter considers cultural opportunities when working with the Latinx population. The term Latinx encompasses a diverse population that shares similar beliefs, values, and experiences. Understanding the Latinx culture while also empathically understanding the client’s unique experiences and perspective can strengthen the therapeutic relationship with clients and their family. The authors share their personal and professional experiences to provide a deeper understanding of the Latinx community. Additionally, this chapter discusses ways in which play therapists can be culturally inclusive both in and out of the playroom.
