ABSTRACT

Childhood poverty is a prevalent concern across the globe. Children living in poverty are vulnerable to the experience of psychosocial concerns that influence their social-emotional wellbeing. To provide responsive therapeutic supports, play therapists must familiarize themselves with those concerns that are most prevalent for children in poverty. The following chapter serves to enhance the reader’s understanding of the experience of childhood poverty while providing concrete methods for integrating socioeconomic considerations into therapeutic work with children.
