ABSTRACT

As the concluding chapter to this collection of scholarly essays, I ask readers to consider how we might bring together the common communication practices, strategies, and critiques articulated in this book. In doing so, we increase our capacity to move beyond critiquing and reflecting on existing structures and practices toward actively building more equitable food systems – or at the very least mitigating harms reproduced in our current systems. The chapter emphasizes critical organizational communication perspectives on working with policy, enacting alternatives, and helping communities create infrastructure that can mobilize food systems change. In addition to highlighting connections from previous chapters, I offer commentary on the challenges of organizing food systems from a communication perspective. Combining a scholarly and practical voice, I outline how communication frameworks can help enact more equitable practices of navigating food systems by building communication infrastructure, particularly through documenting stories and convening people.
