ABSTRACT

Neurolinguistic studies have revealed some of the mysteries of the second language lexico-semantic system. Numerous neuroscientific methodologies have been used in this field, including positron emission tomography, magnetoencephalography, near-infrared spectroscopy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and especially event-related brain potentials, functional magnetic resonance imaging, and patient studies. This chapter aims to define key terms, review the critical findings from studies using neurolinguistic methods, and conclude with future directions for research in this area.
