ABSTRACT

Mental Travels in Imagined Lands is a tale of travels through the several dystopias of Labourland, Fortuneland and Fameland until the socialist utopia of Nomunniburgh in Idealand is reached and described. The Labourers, for the most part, travel in companies, sometimes composed of hundreds, and even thousands, and at other times only of two or three people. The Government House alone is a structure which must have cost, in labour and skill, an amount exceeding even that bestowed on some of those ancient buildings the ruins of which still excite the wonder of modern times by their vast and imposing proportions. Women care for their own homes without recourse to servants, and physical labour keeps the whole nation fit and healthy. As might be expected, the more vigorous-minded amongst the Labourers were not content to dawdle away their time and suffer in health by a prolonged stay in the city.
