ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the education and training of art therapy students and art therapists working with communities. Skill development includes helping students to conceptualize community treatment; their own place within the community and society; what it means to develop cultural humility; and ways to engage with members of the community successfully, therapeutically, and creatively. Community art therapy training encourages therapists to facilitate productive dynamics of power and to adopt adaptability of skills within the micro aspects to the macro aspects of therapy to promote individual, group, and community transformation.
