ABSTRACT

This chapter places a spotlight on three different contexts to understand how masculinities and men’s violence operate within, first, policing, second, higher education, and third, residential care homes for children looked after by the state. These have been chosen as they have all been sites of major investigations in recent years in the United Kingdom. While the chapter is focused on men’s violence and abuse against women and girls, it ends with a summary and conclusion that also brings into view some of the harms that men and boys experience within institutions where cultures of violence against women and girls are ingrained.
