ABSTRACT

CHAPTER ELEVEN is on the funeral expenses incurred by a Parsee family for the first year. It is calculated actually over the ceremony of the deceased 96-year male person in 1763 and who happened to the great-great-grandfather of the author of the chapter based on a 130-year old document. It lists out a large number of articles along with their prices, used at that time in each of the various ceremonies. The chapter also provides a note on the nature of the ceremony, the number of participants in it, and the estimates of expenses showing comparative prices of 14 selected items of food in 1763 and 1896. The old document is also interesting data to compare the wages for the two periods.
