ABSTRACT

CHAPTER FOURTEEN and FIFTEEN are on the statistics of births, deaths, and marriages among the Parsees of Bombay for the decades of 1881–1890 and 1891–1900 respectively. The statistics are gathered from the official census as well as those registered in the books of the Parsee Panchayat. The statistics show that the chief cause of death among the Parsees during the two decades were fever, diseases of the nervous system, of the respiratory system, dysentery, phthisis, and old-age-related diseases. As a rule, the utmost bachelor age of a male Parsee is 40 years while 35 years for a Parsee female. Their statistics are a pointer to the present debate of the Parsee community showing the declining trend of their population growth.
