ABSTRACT

CHAPTER NINETEEN is focused on good and bad omens among the Parsees and auspicious and inauspicious days and preferred acts of behaviour on such days. Some of the omens are specific to Parsees while most of the discussed omens are common among other communities in Gujarat as well. Some of the good omens are: a person coming across some fish while going out on important business; and a person meeting a corpse on the road. Similarly, some noted bad omens are: crossing of a cat when one leaves the house for business; breaking of the chandelier; and breaking of glass bangles. For Parsees, Tuesdays and Fridays are generally inauspicious days hence they avoid beginning anything new or important on these days.
