ABSTRACT

CHAPTER TWENTY is on charms or amulets for diseases of the eye. It depicts the preparation of a charm or amulet from a medicinal plant by a small-town family in a district of Gujarat for the cure of an eye disease. It narrates the story about the Parsee man who was taught the skill of amulet preparation by a Fakir, who was passing by his home and liked his face. Fakir also told him that he or some male members of the family in the direct line of descent from him could only produce the curing power of the amulet. The chapter also mentions about an amulet prepared with dried fish. It also looks at evidence of such amulets in old Parsee books.
