ABSTRACT

CHAPTER FIVE describes some comparisons of marriage customs among the Parsees and similar customs of other nations. It deals with a detailed narration of religious rituals and secular ceremonies starting from betrothal (the auspicious day when the match is arranged), to the period between betrothal to wedding and the final wedding. One of the important customs, over the period of marriage is the inclusion of ten songs at various steps in the ceremonial period. The latter part charts out some notes primarily comparing every Parsee ceremony step by step with those observed in Persia, Greece, Rome, England, Scotland, and Wales. Concerning the religious part of Parsee marriage ceremony it can be said that more or less they are originally Persian.
