ABSTRACT

Language technology has been around for many years. The use of technology in education is educational technology. In the chapter ‘Concept-based Grammar Teaching in the Digital Era: Potential and Challenges,’ Man Ho Ivy Wong of the Department of English Language and Literature of Hong Kong Shue Yan University and Tsun Sing Hung of the same university, discuss the challenges of using computer-assisted language learning (CALL) technologies in Second Language (L2) Education and highlight the importance of pedagogical groundedness in ensuring the effectiveness of these technologies. They introduce a concept-based pedagogical approach in the form of a five-step guide for designing CALL and report on a pilot study in the effectiveness of this approach in an eCALL tutor for teaching L2 grammar.
