ABSTRACT

As we deepen our entanglements with the rapid escalation of technological innovation and the post-human infrastructure of social media and virtual realities, a restructuring of lived embodied existence (and the actual physical body) is taking place and, along with it, a reordering of psychic affective structures and our systems of desire. The nonhuman realm continues to exert a growing influence on our daily lives (new materialism, post-humanism, climate change, viruses, etc.), and thus, we will also need to consider different metapsychological frameworks for unconscious processes that move away from Oedipal or familial understandings of psychic libido toward an account of the unconscious that includes technology and nonhuman forces.
