ABSTRACT

Clinical supervision plays a significant role in the play therapy profession. Understanding and exploring the supervisory process can foster the development of play therapist in general and as an emerging field, and school-based play therapists, in particular. Clinical supervision of school-based play therapists bridges the gap between clinical training and on-the-job experiences. Further, the clinical supervision process ultimately results in better mental health services for all school-aged children. This chapter will review the specific supervision needs and considerations of school-based play therapy supervision. A brief overview of mental health services within K-12, school-based play therapy, and issues related to supervision in school-based play therapy will be discussed.
