ABSTRACT

Sport federations are key players within the sport system of a country. Like any other organisation, a key point of their success deals with their capacity to plan and achieve their objectives and evaluate and monitor the degree to which those objectives are met. During this process it is important to determine the indicators that serve as standards for what is evaluated. The capacity of identifying such indicators is essential for most sport federations that undertake a growing number of activities with limited resources. Consequently, the purpose of this chapter is to examine the performance of sport federations in Spain focusing on three types of goals: Sport Development, Success in International Competitions, and Financial Management. A model of analysis, which included establishing estimated scores for each goal, was developed and then applied to a sample of 30 sport federations.
