ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has been a change agent of global scale. It is an unprecedented event that forced the global economy to shut down, confining families to their homes and stalling economic activity. Driven by these unique circumstances, individuals, communities, businesses, and governments had to find new ways to conduct their daily activities. Due to physical distancing imposed by COVID-19 virus, the majority of these activities had to be carried out remotely, enabled by technology. We explore the role played by digital technology in facilitating some of these behavioral changes, and how COVID-19 can become an accelerator for digital adoption. Organizations and nations that embrace this threshold moment to take bold and decisive steps toward digital acceleration are likely to surge ahead over their peers and build a sustainable competitive advantage over the next decade.
