ABSTRACT

Contemporary media culture is shaped by technological innovations and the sustained move of media conglomerates from vertical to horizontal integration. While the concept of the storyworld has recently begun to gain currency within transmedia studies as well, it has been primarily developed within the field of narratology. One of the advantages of a narratological perspective on transmedia franchises is that it provides a better understanding of the processes that underlie narrative representation and comprehension. Storyworlds with their mental representations ignores that we usually presuppose some kind of intersubjective plausibility when we talk about what is represented by narrative works across different media forms.
