ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the process that you must go through to report someone for violating the code of ethics. It starts by describing informal steps to take before that to resolve the conflict. Only if that is unsuccessful would it be necessary to file a Notice of Alleged Violation with the Board. Reasons for filing a Notice are many and are described in some detail; many “ethical” problems are just a matter of miscommunication, and advice is provided on how to avoid this. Behavior analysts need to monitor and manage all communications with clients to avoid inappropriate expectations and confusion over goals, objectives, and treatment methodologies. There are seven steps to filing a Notice, and this process is illustrated in a flowchart.
