ABSTRACT

This chapter presents three strategies for solving ethics problems. For simple ethics questions, tips are given about finding the person who can solve the problem, how to address the problem, and how to follow up. For more complex problems, an 11-step flowchart is offered. This includes defining the issue, identifying the relevant parties, gathering your documentation, evaluating all the options, taking action, and evaluating the outcome. The third model involves seven steps that begin determining if the incident is covered by the ethics code, listing the stakeholders, and developing contingency plans if the first solution does not work or is unacceptable.
