ABSTRACT

Debates emanating from Africa in recent times have focused on its emerging youthful population, the continent's potential as a major market for ready made products and the rapid infrastructural developments across the continent that make its natural resources easily exploitable. Africa has also until recently been considered one of the continents with the most ongoing regional conflicts with the exception of Asia's Middle East until this negative perception was surpassed by what is going on in the Russian- Ukrainian war that has drawn all the attention of the international community. The custodians of the national heritages including the new and emergent ones remain the same though, namely the Department of Culture, the Antiquities Departments and the National Museums. Africa was colonised by European powers at the turn of the 19th century. The continent of Africa was however not only a victim of colonialism, but also of slavery and slave trade that negatively impacted in its growth and development.
