ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book develops a multi-scalar analysis of energy transitions in Europe based on a regional focus on the Upper Rhine Region (URR). It describes a multidisciplinary analytical framework which shed light on the regional configuration at stake and modelled the diverse issues raised by a cross-border energy market in Europe. The book shows that a carbon-neutral energy system is the cornerstone of a decarbonised economy in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement. It sheds light on Franco-German cross-border cooperation on hydropower implementation, that is, the production of electricity from moving water. The book explores Franco-German partnerships in the URR set up for the need of photovoltaic energy production in order to understand the legal tools mobilised and to explore whether this phenomenon reveals the development of an integrated renewable energy market or not.
