ABSTRACT

Providing food is not an end in itself, but a means for productivity and healthy life. India has to feed its growing population that is soon going to overtake that of China. There are paradoxes of undernutrition, malnutrition of the poor households and food sufficiency. The state plays a crucial role in making the food supply sustainable and safe to enhance human capital and food-producing systems. The chapter examines these aspects of India's food security from three dimensions: supply-side dynamics, consumption, and safety aspects.
