ABSTRACT

Energy security is today no more limited to the availability of fossil fuel alone. It is wider in its define not only in the composition of energy itself but the concept also. Indian energy security doctrine too has evolved with the changing parameter of energy security. It is not only a drive to change the energy composition in favour of clean energy but also a strategy that energy is made accessible and affordable. Moreover, as being leading energy consumer, India enjoys leverage of its market size both in the fossil fuel market and in green energy space. Taking advantage of its global positioning, it is recrafting its energy policy around sustainability by taking initiatives like the International Solar Alliance. However, in designing its transition pathway, India is seemingly emphasizing its targets set by INDC, thereby on a centralized grid than off-grid, and thus restricting its reach to the last consumer. The chapter is the commentary on this evolving energy security doctrine of India.
