ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an analysis of 19 #MeToo videos posted by women micro-influencers on YouTube. Since success as a micro-influencer depends upon appearing authentic, these #MeToo stories provide insight into the sorts of sexual violence stories that count as authentic in the current moment. The chapter argues that #MeToo has made space for more nuanced and socially critical accounts of sexual violence compared to those from the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. However, the analysis also suggests that narratives of mainly white victims who can present themselves as blameless continue to predominate.
