ABSTRACT

In recent years frequent reference has been made to group supervision by people involved in social work education, and particularly by those who are interested in the development of the teaching of fieldwork practice. There has also been some interest in the planned supervision of groups of field social workers. But there is comparatively little evidence of the use of small groups produced by those involved in the supervision of fieldwork. There have been very occasional papers describing the use of small groups in student or worker supervision – Harper (1969), Central Training Council in Child Care (1971), Smith (1972), Davies and Taylor (1973) – but generally documentation of experience from this side of the Atlantic is very sparse.
