ABSTRACT

According to the 2020 survey on smartphone overdependence in South Korea, conducted by the “Ministry of Science and ICT” (MSIT), 3.7% of women were categorized as being at high risk and 18.4% at potential risk of smartphone addiction. There has been little literature on female behavioural addiction in the past. Therefore, data from the Nowon-gu Addiction Center project were analyzed in a secondary data analysis. This survey was conducted in 2017 and included 3,937 students. Of the total sample, 62 women (1.7%) showed high risk for Internet gaming disorder. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and withdrawal were significantly higher among women than among men.
