ABSTRACT

The proportion of women treated for problematic internet use (PIU) is growing. In addition, women play a major role in facilitating treatment seeking for their partners and children. PIU in women has specific motives and determinants that must be assessed and acknowledged to adjust the care response. Treating women for addictive behaviours is a human endeavor, which would benefit from a female care providers’ lens for in-depth and comprehensive assessment and treatment. I capitalized on 15 years of experience to shed light on clinical and public health issues related with PIU in Swiss women and the fit-for-purpose care response I fine-tuned including gender considerations.
