ABSTRACT

Research investigating female gamers is scarce with regards to psychosocial profile and clinical implications concerning potential gaming disorder. However, the stereotype of the male gamer and consequently the male gaming addict persists in our culture. The present chapter aims to (i) present an international female gamer profile, and to (ii) determine the clinical implications of addictive gaming behaviour in females. This chapter covers the gap in knowledge on the female gaming phenomenon from a global perspective to shed light on and prevent gaming disorder in this hidden population group, illuminating this gendered behaviour and the risks associated with gaming disorder in women.
