ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present some of the studies we have conducted in recent years on emotional dependence on a partner, which reflect conclusions relevant to the clinical setting. The results obtained suggest that as emotional dependence on the partner increases, the insecure attachment style developed in childhood increases in parallel, especially based on affective deprivation, substance use, impulsivity, behavioural addictions, eating disorders (ED), difficulties in emotional regulation, early maladaptive schemas, and permanence in violent relationships, as well as a parallel decrease in self-esteem and resilience.
