ABSTRACT

In Russia, like in other countries, there is a high prevalence of Internet and social media use, as well as related manifestations of addictive behaviour: impaired control, increasing priority over other life interests, continuation despite negative consequences, and impairment of important areas of functioning. Several researchers from Russia point out that prevalence of Internet addiction is higher among women, compared to men, and that the most frequent type of Internet activity among women is the use of social media, which in some cases meets the criteria of problem use. Among personal features of girls and young women with problem Internet and social media use are high social anxiety, fear of negative assessments, and difficulties in accepting their own emotions and emotions of others.
