ABSTRACT

Joe Mantello is an actor and director, most famous for directing the hit Broadway musical Wicked (2003), but he has also been associated with many of the most important LGBTQ plays of the last 50 years. He appeared in Paula Vogel’s The Baltimore Waltz (1992), Tony Kushner’s Angels in America (1993), and a revival of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart (1985). He directed Terrence McNally’s Love! Valour! Compassion! (1994), Richard Greenberg’s Take Me Out (2002), and a revival of Mart Crowley’s The Boys in the Band (1968). He has been nominated for six Tony Awards and won twice for Best Direction.
