ABSTRACT

Throughout her 40-year career, Monica Palacios’s comedic solo-performances, plays, and publications have amplified Chicana lesbian sexuality in theatre and academic spaces across the US. Grounded in Chicana feminism and queer women of color critique, Palacios’s body of work counters homophobic and nationalist scripts of family in both Chicanx and US culture. Despite the homophobia of elite theatre spaces and academic theatre programs, Palacios’s work has been persistent and groundbreaking. The legacy of Palacios’s work is represented in the prestigious awards and entities that have supported her work throughout her career.
